Dual Transition: Free Courses for Workers and SMEs

The digital and green transitions are reshaping entire productive sectors: some skills are becoming obsolete, while others are emerging. To support workers, jobseekers, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through this shift, the Smart Skills Intelligence Portal has been launched. This free vocational training platform operates within key sectors essential to the dual transition.

The platform is designed for those wishing to invest in their professional growth, regardless of their starting point. The pathways are suitable for:

  • Workers looking to update their skills in fast-evolving sectors;
  • Jobseekers aiming for roles in the energy, tourism, or agri-food industries;
  • Entrepreneurs wanting to strengthen business processes and navigate the dual transition with greater awareness;
  • SMEs seeking practical tools to align their operations with digital and ecological standards.

For workers and jobseekers: five pathways, three strategic sectors

The Smart Skills Intelligence Portal offers five training pathways of 30 hours each, built upon European frameworks (ESCO, GreenComp, DigiComp, EntreComp). At the start of the programme, each participant completes a brief self-assessment, allowing the platform to generate a personalised itinerary.

The courses cover three key sectors:

  • Energy, focusing on renewable sources, efficiency, and new roles within the green transition;
  • Agri-food, covering sustainable supply chains and production technologies;
  • Tourism, oriented towards reducing environmental impact and digital innovation.

Additionally, there are two cross-cutting pathways—entrepreneurship and digitisation—which are valuable in any professional context. Participation is free and the courses are self-paced. Alongside online learning, the programme includes practical experiences at Sicilian SMEs that are already undergoing the dual transition.

For businesses: seminars and workshops

For small and medium-sized enterprises, the programme provides themed seminars and dedicated workshops designed to support adaptation to new environmental and digital standards. This offers operational support for those who wish to seize the opportunities of the transition rather than merely being affected by them.

Requirements and timeline

To access these pathways, applicants must be at least 25 years old and hold a high school diploma. Opportunities for workers will begin in June 2026, while activities aimed at SMEs will start in September 2026.
